FAQ

Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station

QDo international organizations carry out regular checks regarding the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident?
AThe International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has conducted inspections (reviews) five times in the past.

The IAEA has published international reviews on the situation and initiatives related to decommissioning and contaminated water by a research team of nuclear energy experts.

After the accident, the Japanese government formulated the Mid-and-Long-Term Roadmap towards the Decommissioning of TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, which sets out the basic approach and main phases for decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.

Upon the request of Japanese government, the IAEA organized five missions of the International Peer Review of the Roadmap in April 2013, November and December 2013, February 2015, November 2018, and August 2021. The results of the review were put into reports, which are available on the IAEA website.
