~GENKI! FUKUSHIMA appears at The Mall Japan Discovery 2024~The Reconstruction Agency opened a GENKI! FUKUSHIMA booth at The Mall Japan Discovery 2024 in locations such as Bangkok in Thailand, which drew a total of about 320,000 visitors. We were happy to see that Fukushima’s food and tourist destinations were a hit with so many people! Here we’ll talk about the event that was held at the Bangkhae branch in Bangkok from November 2 to 10, 2024.
1.Serving Fukushima fruit
A special menu made with Fukushima peaches
We created a special menu featuring a variety of dishes made from Fukushima’s Akatsuki peaches, including panna cotta, peach tea, and peach milk tea.
The sweetness and juiciness of Fukushima’s peaches earned many compliments from visitors: “The peaches were so sweet and delicious. I never knew that Fukushima’s fruit tasted this good!” “The fresh flavor of the peach tea was really refreshing—I think it’s perfect for Thailand’s hot climate.” It was clear that Fukushima peaches were a hit in Thailand. REIKO, a Thailand-based influencer who was the MC of the event, said “I tried Fukushima’s peaches and was amazed by their freshness and great taste. I’ll be recommending the panna cotta in particular to my followers in Thailand.”
2.Serving Fukushima seafood
A special dish made with seafood from the Sanriku and Joban regions
We served a specially designed hotate-don (rice bowl topped with scallops and other seafood) made with seafood from the Sanriku and Joban regions.
The dish was well received by visitors, who said “The hotate-don was the most delicious thing I’ve ever tasted. It’s made me want to try more seafood from the Sanriku and Joban regions” and “I bought the hotate-don because I’ve always loved salmon, and it was even better than I expected.” REIKO considered promoting it to her own followers: “The hotate-don was outstanding. The quality of this seafood is sure to be appreciated in Thailand.”
3.Serving Fukushima sake
The great taste of sake was enhanced by high-quality water from Fukushima
We served the four top Fukushima sakes that are available in Thailand: Gold Ninki Junmai Daiginjo, Daishichi Junmai Kimoto Sokai Reishu, Daishichi Yukishibori Nigorisake, and Naraman Junmai Ginjo.
Visitors who sampled the sake were impressed by the taste: “Even as someone who doesn’t know much about Japanese sake, the smoothness stood out to me. It was delicious.” “It has a fruity aroma and taste. I’d recommend it to my friends who like sweet Thai alcoholic beverages.”
4.Serving Fukushima cuisine
A delicious range of locally available food from Fukushima
We served a range of Fukushima specialties that are available in Thailand, including Kitakata ramen and miso soup with Fukushima sea lettuce (aosa).
The dishes were well received by visitors: “The broth of the Kitakata ramen was rich and delicious. I want to have it again!” “The sea lettuce miso soup is something I could easily make at home, so I want to give it a try.” REIKO tried the sea lettuce miso soup and said “It’s simple but there’s a depth to the taste; it tasted like Fukushima. It will probably be popular with health-conscious people in Thailand.”
5. Providing Fukushima tourist information
Natural beauty and great tourist destinations
We promoted tourism in Fukushima through features like a special video where Fukushima locals shared information about Fukushima.
We also collaborated with travel companies in Thailand to create a pamphlet with details on great tourist destinations in Fukushima.
Visitors expressed excitement: “Seeing this video made me want to visit Fukushima right away. The hot springs especially appealed to me.” “When I looked at the tourism pamphlet, I was struck by how many great places there are in Fukushima. I want to plan a trip there with my friends.” REIKO was beaming as she shared her thoughts: “We never see snow in Thailand so I want to go to Fukushima and take lots of pictures of the snow!”
